We think with images

As a new independent boutique press, Cleio specializes in the visual history of science and technology. For too long, scholars have used photographs primarily as evidence to support historical claims. In contrast, we embrace the pictorial turn in the humanities and publish works that explore how images shape our understanding of the history of science and technology—and what this history can learn from visual practices.

We aim for fair publishing

At Cleio Press, fair publishing means that we treat authors and collaborators with respect, prioritize diverse voices and perspectives, and offer fair royalties and transparent contracts.

Living with Radiation  New

by Maria Rentetzi

Hardcover

Living with Radiation is a visual history of radiation protection, shaped by stories of failure and persistence—a narrative of ironic contradictions inscribed in human bodies. Drawing on a wide array of images from archives and collections around the world, the book questions how we have come to live with radiation in the complex ways we do today.
